The Service of Molecular Analyses in fruit crops is located at the Experimental Station of the IHSM La Mayora (Algarrobo), within the Axarquía region, in the main subtropical fruit crop producing region in continental Europe and, consequently, represents a unique place for cooperation and interaction with numerous private companies in the subtropical fruit production sector. The main objective of the Service is to provide scientific and technological support for the molecular analysis (fingerprinting, variety identification and breeding) of different subtropical fruit crops to research groups and private companies at the national and international level.
The laboratory has the following equipment:
Molecular identification of species:
The service has three laboratories: a first laboratory where the DNA extraction process is carried out; a second laboratory for PCR and a third laboratory with fragment analysers for fragment analysis.
Molecular diagnosis of sunblotch viroid (ASBVD) in avocado:
The service has two laboratories: a first laboratory where the RNA extraction process is carried out and a second laboratory for hybridisation with its corresponding membrane.
This service can be used by the staff of both public and private entities at national and international level. To access the service for the first time, the person in charge must fill in and submit a document with administrative information in order to be included in the database of users of the service. All applications for the service must also be accompanied by the corresponding form duly completed and signed by the person in charge of the research centre or company. The person in charge may delegate the signature to another person by submitting the signature authorisation form.
Samples shall be delivered directly to the service personnel between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.. Exceptionally, samples may be delivered outside these hours with prior notice.
